Garlic

Garlic has been used in cooking for thousands of years. It has been touted as being useful for lowering elevated blood pressure, cholesterol, and possibly helping diabetes. Although lipid lowering has been shown, clinical effect is less than for traditional drugs and may be of benerfit only when the patient has mild elevations of cholesterol. In hypertension, the effects are also slight. For diabetes there are no trials that indicate it may be of benefit although it has been reported to reduce blood glucose in animals and humans.
